TOP BABY NAMES IN SCOTLAND SO FAR IN 2019…

According to the National Records of Scotland (NRS), Jack and Olivia remain the most popular baby names in Scotland.

BOYS 

Did you know that Jack has been the top boys’ name for eleven years running?

The following three boys’ names, have been top in at least five of the years from 1974 to 2018:

  1. David (19 years: 1974 to 1992)
  2. Ryan (five years: 1994 to 1998)
  3. Jack (16 years: 1999 to 2002, 2006 and 2008 onwards)

GIRLS

Olivia has been the most popular girls’ name for three years running.

Four girls’ names have been top in at least five of the years from 1974 to 2018:

  1. Laura (11 years: 1979 to 1989) I too am a Laura and not wanting to give my date of birth away…my parents obviously set the trend here
  2. Emma (eight years: 1990 to 1993, 1996, 1997, 2003 and 2004)
  3. Chloe (five years: 1998 to 2002)
  4. Sophie (nine years: 2005 to 2013)

In other parts of the world, according to Nameberry, Prince Harry & Meghan Markle seem to have had a lot of influence on people having babies in 2019. The site also notes an increase in popularity of names with an “O.”..but none have made it to the top ten yet!
